Abstract

Coastal areas are areas with high utilization rates and are vulnerable to environmental damage due to human activities. Ecosystem damage, environmental pollution, land use change, social conflict of interest are some of the main issues arising as the impact of human exploitation on coastal areas. Uncontrolled land use changes are a threat to the carrying capacity and sustainability of coastal resources. This study aims to (1) map the land use pattern of the Madura Strait coastal area utilizing Landsat 8 satellite imagery; (2) to analyze changes in land use patterns of coastal areas; (3) to measure the accuracy of mapping of land use pattern of coastal area of Madura Strait. The main method used in this research is by intrepetation of Landsat satellite image processing with classification technique of supervised classification using maximum likelihood algorithm. The results showed that there are some dominant land use classes in the Madura Strait coastal areas, namely: settlement, rice field, fields, coastal forest and moor. Calculation of the accuracy test by comparing the results of land use analysis with the results of field observations using Confusion Matrix obtained 86% accuracy value
